image for press release Drake Road Construction Begins July 1 – Full Closure of Drake and Shields Intersection Required Drake Road from Meadowlark Avenue/Research Boulevard to Dunbar Avenue is scheduled for milling and final paving starting Sunday, July 1. Work will be completed over a two week period. Traffic will be most impacted on Sunday, July 1, and the following weekend, July 7 and 8, when activities will require a FULL CLOSURE of the Drake and Shields intersection.

Throughout construction, traffic crossing Drake Road or accessing driveways along the work zone will be impacted for short periods of time as the operation moves. A detailed schedule of operations is provided below. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

Schedule:
• July 1: Drake Road and Shields Street intersection CLOSED for milling.
o Detour routes include Taft Hill Road, Horsetooth Road, Prospect Road and College Avenue.
• July 2-3: Paving Drake Road, Meadowlark to Shields; traffic reduced to one lane in each direction..
• July 4-6: Operations pause; all lanes open to traffic.
• July 7-8: Drake Road and Shields Street intersection CLOSED for paving.
o Detour routes include Taft Hill Road, Horsetooth Road, Prospect Road and College Avenue.
• July 9-10: Paving Drake Road, Shields Street to Dunbar Avenue; traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.

Work Zone Information
Typically working hours are weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Extended hours and weekend work will be utilized to help avoid some traffic impacts. Traffic delays can be expected for the duration of this project, so alternate routes are suggested. Detour signs and “Businesses Open” signs will be clearly posted for those traveling in the construction zone.
