Construction on Rigden Water Storage Project Begins

Posted on: Feb-28-2014

Construction has started on the Rigden Water Storage Project, a new raw water storage facility, located in an existing gravel pit east of Ziegler and north of Horsetooth Roads.

This project, scheduled for completion in December 2014, will provide additional storage capacity for Fort Collins Utilities with some storage dedicated to Fort Collins Natural Areas. The storage reservoir will be lined using clay from the bottom of the gravel pit to prevent leakage.

Throughout the project, over 2 million cubic yards of material (equivalent to 612 Olympic-sized pools) will be removed from the reservoir, with half remaining on site for reuse. A pump station, 4,400 feet of large pipe and several concrete structures also will be constructed.
