Tour the Poudre River Watershed July 16 or August 9

Posted on: Jun-20-2014

As part of ongoing outreach and education efforts, Fort Collins Utilities offers chartered bus tours of the Poudre River watershed on Wednesday, July 16 and Saturday, Aug. 9 to educate the public about what it takes to manage water resources and supply quality drinking water.

The tours depart from Utilities Service Center, 700 Wood St., 8 a.m., and travel by bus up the Poudre River corridor to Cameron Pass, where participants will learn about Fort Collins’ watershed and water supply history, take short walking tours and eat a boxed lunch provided by Utilities. The group will then stop at Gateway Natural Area for educational activities before arriving back at Utilities by 5 p.m.

Topics covered will include the effects of floods and fire in our watershed, a look at the Michigan Ditch system, water quality monitoring and conservation efforts. Participants are encouraged to interact with the presenters and are given materials to supplement their educational experience. Tours are available for adults, 18 and up.
