High Park Fire Restoration Activities to Begin Early July, Wrapping up in August

Posted on: Jun-25-2014

Fort Collins Utilities continues to work with Larimer County and the City of Greeley on the 2012 High Park Fire restoration and mitigation efforts to decrease fire-related impacts, including flooding, mud and debris slides and impacts to water quality.

An extension on the funding was recently granted by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. As a result, rehabilitation efforts will begin again in early July and conclude by mid-August. During this time, trucks and helicopters will be moving material to and from the restoration sites in Poudre and Rist Canyons.

In March 2012, Congress passed legislation to provide nearly $20 million in Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) funding for mitigation efforts. In 2013, 1,630 acres of aerial wood shred mulching and 48,000 linear feet of directional felling were completed.
