It's a Xeriscape Garden Party - Join the Fun, July 10

Posted on: Jun-30-2014

Join Fort Collins Utilities’ Xeriscape Garden Party and discover plant varieties and gardening practices that create a colorful landscape and save water in our semi-arid region. The event is free and open to the public, Thursday, July 10, 5-7 p.m., City’s Xeriscape Demonstration Garden, 300 Laporte Ave.

During the garden party, Colorado Master Gardeners will lead tours and discuss the seven principles of Xeriscape. Guests can seek advice from local landscape professionals and nurseries, and enjoy refreshments and live music. Demonstrations also will be provided for new sprinkler system technology.

Created in 1986, the demonstration garden features more than 160 xeric plant species grouped into three zones based on water requirements, including trees, shrubs, perennials, groundcovers and turf.

The garden is a Plant Select® Demonstration Garden. Plant Select is a cooperative program between CSU, Denver Botanic Gardens and area nurseries to identify plant varieties that perform well in our region. Details at plantselect.org.

Xeriscape provides a diversity of seasonal colors and textures, lowers outdoor water use by 30 to 50 percent and reduces yard maintenance. Gardeners don’t need to sacrifice their love for creating awe-inspiring landscapes—they just need to know how to adapt to local conditions.
