Host of PBS Series "Designing Healthy Communities" to Speak at Regional Conference

Posted on: Jan-05-2015

Dr. Richard Jackson, MD, MPH, author of the book and host of the PBS series “Designing Healthy Communitiesâ€, will deliver the keynote speech at the Northern Colorado Business Innovation Conference, Thursday, Jan. 29.

Dr. Jackson’s work focuses on how the built environment, including architecture and urban planning, affects health. A pediatrician-turned-public-health officer, Dr. Jackson concludes that for the first time in our nation’s history, we are subtracting years of life from our children because of the chronic diseases of obesity, asthma and diabetes. He identifies common characteristics of unhealthy communities and details best practice design alternatives to ensure public health consequences are considered in policy decisions.

Through interactive workshops and exhibitor showcases, Northern Colorado Business Innovation Conference attendees will explore how economic, social and environmental advancements are changing the way business is conducted in the region.

Registration is $49 for the daylong event held at the Fort Collins Senior Center and hosted by the cities of Fort Collins and Loveland in partnership with Platte River Power Authority.
