Fort Collins Businesses Encouraged to Help Community Win $5 Million Energy Prize

Posted on: Apr-15-2015

Fort Collins businesses can Lose-A-Watt and help the community win a $5 million energy prize. Fort Collins Utilities is rolling out the WorkWise Challenge, which encourages local businesses to participate in Lose-A-Watt, the City of Fort Collins’ campaign to compete for the Georgetown University Energy Prize.

Energy consumed in the business sector is not included in the Georgetown University competition, but the WorkWise Challenge provides an opportunity for employees to reduce their energy use at home.

Participating businesses will schedule a short presentation for their employees to learn about energy efficiency in their homes. After the presentation, employees get free conservation kits with energy efficiency tools to install at home and then track their energy saving actions online. Prizes for employees and businesses will be awarded throughout the challenge.

The WorkWise Challenge is open to all businesses within Fort Collins city limits that want to participate in Lose-A-Watt.

As a semi-finalist in the Georgetown University Energy Prize, the City launched the Lose-A-Watt campaign in February to encourage residents to save energy over the next two years. The national competition challenges cities to reduce energy use and help each other with best practices. The $5 million prize is to be used toward energy efficiency programs in the community.
