Free Home Efficiency Assessments Help Larimer County Residents Save Energy and Water

Posted on: Apr-20-2015

Since January, more than 490 Larimer County households have received free home energy and water assessments and efficiency upgrades from Larimer County Conservation Corps through a partnership with Fort Collins Utilities, Loveland Water and Power and Platte River Power Authority.

The assessment includes an inspection of the home’s insulation, appliances, windows, toilets and heating and cooling system. Corps members educate the household on efficiency practices, provide information on rebate opportunities to help lower energy and water bills and install appropriate efficiency measures based on the home’s needs.

Free assessments are available to Fort Collins Utilities and Loveland Water and Power customers through May 8. This year, Corps members have installed more than:
• 4,766 CFL lightbulbs
• 251 clotheslines
• 86 thermostats
• 192 carbon monoxide/smoke detectors
• 648 bathroom faucet aerators
• 276 kitchen faucet aerators
• 368 showerheads
• 218 shower timers
• 115 toilet tank banks
• 26 high efficiency toilets

By getting an assessment, Fort Collins residents are participating in the Lose-A-Watt campaign to help the community win a $5 million energy efficiency prize from Georgetown University. Since 2008, the Larimer County Conservation Corps’ Energy and Water Program has trained young adults in the efficiency industry and increased accessibility to conservation measures and education for Fort Collins and Loveland residents.
