Utilities' Water Treatment Facility Receives National Award for Ongoing Safe Water Practices

Posted on: Jun-04-2015

Fort Collins Utilities’ Water Treatment Facility received the “15 Year Directors Award of Recognition†from the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Partnership for Safe Water.

This honor ranks the Facility as one of 48 treatment plants nationwide to receive the award this year, and among only 77 total facilities ever to reach this level of achievement. Fort Collins Utilities will be among a select group of utilities honored by the Partnership at the annual conference of the AWWA, the largest and oldest worldwide organization dedicated to safe water.

“Maintaining the Directors Award status for 15 continuous years demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our employees and their commitment to provide great-tasting, high-quality and affordable drinking water to our community,†said Utilities’ Water Production Manager Mark Kempton. “The Water Treatment Facility is staffed around-the-clock, 365 days a year. Providing safe water to Fort Collins is a high priority to each and every employee. The achievement of the Directors Award demonstrates our ongoing commitment to protecting public health, and we are honored to receive this award.â€

The Partnership is a voluntary program that encourages members to increase their water quality and provide drinking water that surpasses federal and state requirements. Members must complete a rigorous review of treatment practices by national experts, complete self-assessments and undergo a peer-review process.

To qualify, the Water Treatment Facility consistently operates at a level beyond standard compliance with environmental regulations. “Continuous performance improvement is a high priority for Fort Collins Utilities,†added Kempton. “The Partnership provides a framework to achieve continuous improvement and helps us remain one of the top producers of high-quality water in the nation.â€
